Forget Everything You Know About SEO (search engine optimization)

Get your mind blown with these SEO (search engine optimization) insights

First, let me start off by saying, forget everything you think you know about search engine optimization.

I’m about to give you the rundown on what SEO is all about and how you can use it simply for your online business.

You may have heard of search engine bots or spiders “crawling” your website. There’s a reason why the internet contains the word “net” and why websites contain the word “web”. The internet connects and branches out like a spider web. Think of all the strings as the links on a website and nodes where they connect as the actual pages of a website.

Search engine bots reads the info it finds at each “nod” (web page) and then makes its way to every link on that page. If that sounds like a lot, it is. Search engine spiders index millions of pages per day to catalog the to which search engines can respond to the millions of search queries per day.

Links and Copy

So with that said, be mindful of where you are linking to, and who is linking to you. Not only does linking help the spider move throughout the web, but it also builds you domain authority when you link to reputable sources. However, if you link to a sketchy site, it can harm your rankings. But when a well-known site shouts you out, that tells the spiders that you’re kind of a big deal and it will reward you for that.

Multimedia Content

This is your video and photo content. They are a great way to relate to other human beings. BUT…bots and spiders cannot “see” these images. Instead, they rely on the surrounding text to determine what it is. So be sure to title your images/videos with keys, as well as the alt text section.

Navigation

Your site should be easy to navigate. This is as much for engines as it if for humans. A clear navigation bar and linking pages with relevant content within your site should be the top priority. This may seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised at how many people overlook the simple basics.

These spiders are a wonderful thing when you are using SEO the right way. You want them to crawl your site often so that they’re always keeping an accurate and relevant catalogue for the millions of search queries.

On that note, the best thing to do it to keep your site up to date with content. Fresh content is what we’re after here. And producing it is kind of a two for one deal-that is providing the spider with info as well as your loyal fans.

Humans are like spiders

Okay, not really, but check this out. If your human visitors are having trouble finding content, or they don’t know how your site works, I guarantee you that the spiders on the internet are having the same trouble.

How much does your navigation make sense? Can people easily find key areas of your site? Are you leading people around the site with helpful links to other pages within your site? You should be encouraging  movement within your site, this will bring higher engagement, lower bounce rates, loyal fans and warmer leads.
